Loss of drive power recall (cars built through January 2024)
Two software campaigns deal with the high-voltage system shutting down while driving. The larger (NHTSA 25V-395, about 71,000 BMW EVs, 25,447 of them iXs built from February 2021 to January 16, 2024, M60 included) fixes electric motor software that can wrongly detect an insulation fault and cut drive power 15 to 20 seconds after a red warning, while steering and brakes keep working; BMW puts the rate under 1%. An earlier one (22V-944, 5,389 iXs built through October 2022, M60 included) fixed battery control software that could reset and briefly cut power. More than one in ten of the 116 owner complaints to NHTSA about the iX describe a loss of power or a Drivetrain malfunction message. Both fixes are free software updates.
How to check
Run the VIN through NHTSA's recall lookup or a BMW dealer and ask for proof both updates are done, and ask whether the car ever showed a Drivetrain malfunction warning or had a motor replaced.
