About M Buyers Guide.

What this is

Purpose, mission and promise, as of October 22, 2026:

What it does. M Buyers Guide tells you what one specific used performance car will cost to own, what to check, and whether it is the right one, with every number sourced, before any money moves.

Why it exists. Make buying a used performance car as informed as selling one.

The promise. Every number has a source, or it says it is our judgment. Nothing is paid for placement. Ever.

M Buyers Guide is an independent buyers guide for used BMW M and M Performance cars. Every generation in the guide carries three scores (Desirability, Enthusiast and Reliability) and an overall Guide Score for every model year, all produced by one published scoring system that never bends for any particular car or listing.

The full doctrine, weights included, is on the method page.

Who runs it

One person, an M enthusiast who got tired of buying advice that was either forum folklore or thinly disguised advertising.

The scores are our judgment, informed by ownership data, recall and complaint records from NHTSA, and the M community's accumulated experience. Where a number is judgment rather than measurement, the site labels it in place.

How it is funded

Right now, out of pocket.

If that changes, only two clearly disclosed ways

  • advertising that is visibly advertising;
  • and affiliate links that are labeled where they appear.

Two things will never happen

  • a score changing because of money;
  • and a car being recommended because someone paid for the placement.

Scores change only through versioned methodology events, each one logged on the method page.

Independence

M Buyers Guide is not affiliated with or endorsed by BMW AG. No dealer, seller, or marketplace has any input into scores, rankings, or verdicts. Listings shown on the site are representative examples, not a live feed, and are dated where they appear.
