The short answer

The second X2 M35i, sold here from 2024 and built in Regensburg, trades the first car's hatchback shape for a fastback roof on the platform of the current X1.

Each part is scored from 0 to 100 on a fixed outside scale. Acclaim comes from published expert lists, launch reviews and awards; the more acclaimed a car, the less its ownership cost counts in this all-time score (its dollars below are unchanged). A part marked not measured carries no weight for this car, and the others share its weight.

Long-term value, shown and not scored

No permitted price yet: we have not found three prices for this car from sources that allow this use.

Long-term value starts to count in the score once 75% of the 69 generations have permitted prices. Today 43 do.

The cost to own

About $2,103 a year to own ($1,343 to $3,125), about $8,204 over five years, bought at five years old or its own age if older, kept five years.

  1. Coolant leaks (B48): about $115 over five years, possible (source)
  2. Dual-clutch hesitation at low speed: about $37 over five years, possible (source)
  3. Infotainment freezes and phone dropouts: about $2 over five years, remote (source)

Expect about $1,300 to $3,100 a year; the bill that decides it is coolant leaks. Ownership risk: moderate.

Best year to buy

2026The best year to buy, reading 45 of 100, about $2,103 a year to own.

No logged change between model years sets it apart; every year reads within 2 points of it, so buy on condition and records.

No year to think twice about: none reads 3 or more points below the 2026, and no logged fault separates them.

  4. 202745$2,103 a year

From our log of the changes between model years, each with its source. Only changes the score reads count as reasons; recalls BMW fixes for free, options and tuning notes do not. The cost a year is for a car bought at five years old, or its own age if older, kept five years. How the score works.

The longer answer

It has a revised B48 2.0-liter turbo four with port and direct injection, rated at 312 hp and 295 lb-ft, a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox with a mechanical limited-slip differential for the front axle, all-wheel drive, and Adaptive M suspension and M Sport brakes as standard; M Compound brakes and 21in wheels are the sporty options. There are no special editions.

Edmunds found it quick but harsh-riding and "a super hard sell" over the regular X2. The one documented fault so far is the integrated brake module recall on 2024 and 2025 cars, so make sure it has been done.

What to look for. Proof that recall 24V-104 (the integrated brake module) was completed on a 2024 or 2025 car, a VIN check for other open recalls (front seat belt retractors on some 2025 and 2026 X2s, rear seat belt retractors on some 2026 cars), the dual-clutch's behavior pulling away and on a hill, the screens and phone connection working without freezes, no coolant loss, how much factory warranty and BMW Ultimate Care maintenance is left, and the ride on the car's actual wheel size before you buy.
