Inspection checklist

X1 M35i U11, 2024 to 2027

Before you go

  • Open recalls. Run the VIN through NHTSA or a BMW dealer and ask for proof every recall was done.
  • History report. Check the title, accidents, owners and mileage record.
  • Service records. Ask for them in advance, ideally from a BMW dealer or specialist.
  • Certified or not. BMW can still certify 2024 to 2027 cars. If this one is certified, ask for the paperwork showing when its cover ends.
  • Independent inspection. Book a pre-purchase inspection with a shop that knows this engine.

Known problems on this car

  • Infotainment screen blackouts

    Connect your phone on the test drive, use navigation and the camera, ask whether the software is current, and look for screen or software complaints in the service history.

  • Dual-clutch hesitation at low speed

    On a test drive, pull away gently and briskly from a stop, on a hill if you can, and maneuver into a parking space; ask whether transmission software updates have been done.

  • Coolant leaks about $1,200 to fix

    Check the coolant level with the engine cold, look for low-coolant warnings in the history, and look for dried coolant around the hoses and the expansion tank.

At the viewing

  • Proof that recall 24V-104 (the integrated brake module) was completed on a 2024 or 2025 car and.
  • On a 2025 car.
  • Recall 24V-829 (the B-pillar inspection).
  • A VIN check for other open recalls (rear seat belt retractors on some 2026 cars).
  • The screens staying on and the phone connecting without dropouts.
  • The dual-clutch's behavior pulling away and on a hill.
  • No coolant loss.
  • How much factory warranty and BMW Ultimate Care maintenance is left.

Recalls to confirm

  • Integrated brake module recall

    Run the VIN on NHTSA's or BMW's recall lookup and ask for the dealer's record of the module replacement. Do not buy a car with the recall still open unless the price reflects the wait.

  • B-pillar reinforcement recall

    On a 2025 car, run the VIN and ask for the dealer's record of the B-pillar inspection or replacement.
